Means obtained his Bachelor of Science in 1968, Master of Science in Ecology in 1972, and Ph.D. in Ecology in 1975 all from Florida State University[2]. He is a courtesy professor in the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University, a position he has held since 1989[3].
